Calling All Kids, Grades 5-8: SMaRT Workshops

Children will do fun activities in sciences

Bethlehem, PA (11/05/2018) — Boys and girls in fifth-eighth grades are invited to enjoy fun science activities at SMaRT (Science, Math and Related Technologies) workshops presented by Northampton Community College (NCC) on Saturday, November 17, from 1:00 - 4:20 p.m. at the College's Monroe Campus, Kapp Hall, 2411 Route 715, Tannersville. Check-in will be from 12:15 - 12:50 p.m. The first 75 to register will receive free gifts.

The workshops include:

Emboss Like a Boss. (Use tin foil and paint to create art that rises from the paper.)

That is SOOO Small (Use microscopes to scope out tiny organisms.)

Investigate a Crime Scene Using Forensic Science. (Learn about blood typing and solve a mystery.)

Those Crazy Reactions (Produce colors and textures in a lab.)

Wild Woodworking for All. (Participants will use a 3-D printer.)

Build a Cell: Prokaryotes vs Eukaryotes. Who wins? (Find out the fascinating facts about the germs around us by creating models.)

Organs Exposed. (Find out how blood flows and eyes focus light by dissecting sheep hearts and eyes.)

Build Your Own Robot (Create a small robot. Not recommended for younger ages.)

The registration deadline is November 15, by 10:00 p.m. To register, go to www.northampton.edu/lifelearn and click on SMART500, creating an account for each child, or pay in person by check or cash at the Monroe Campus Enrollment Office, Keystone Hall.
