NCC Culinary Student Wins Award at Regional Competition
Bethlehem, PA (04/02/2020) — When I found out about this competition, I knew Thomas would be a great fit," said Francine Marz, director of the culinary program at Northampton Community College (NCC).
Marz selected Thomas Traupman, culinary student at NCC, to represent the college in the Mid-Atlantic Junior Chaine Competition that was held March 8 at the Restaurant School in Philadelphia. In this juried contest, each competitor receives a mystery box, and they must compose a menu and prepare an appetizer, main course and dessert for four people. Traupman took home a bronze medal.
Knowing she could pick only one representative per college, Traupman came to mind right away. He had competed in the past with his partner Matthew Kirby in China for the International Young Chefs Association Challenge back in October 2019, where they also took home Bronze. They were the only team in the competition representing the United States.
"This was another competition he could add to his resume. He will be able to do more like this, and he was able to network with people from all over Mid-Atlantic region," said Marz.
Traupman plans to attend Johnson and Wales to pursue a bachelor's in culinary arts.
NCC's culinary program continues to elevate the culinary program and take advantage of more opportunities like this for our students. To find more information about culinary arts at NCC visit northampton.edu/culinary-arts.htm.
