Puerto Rican Performer Angel Vazquez Presents One-Man Show at NCC
Rare free performance of "Hecho en Puelto Rico"
Bethlehem, PA (04/05/2018) — Ángel Vázquez, Puerto Rican performer and educator, will present his one man show, "Hecho en Puelto Rico," (yes, the L is on purpose) on Saturday, April 21, at 7 p.m. in Lipkin Theatre at NCC's Bethlehem Campus.
"Hecho en Puelto Rico" is a performance about the Puerto Rican crisis. In it, a young man is faced with the conflict of staying on the island or moving to the U.S. mainland, and before he decides, he opens up a suitcase his grandfather left for him. Inside the suitcase he discovers an entire history of Puerto Rico that he was never taught in school, a history that highlights the great accomplishments of Puerto Ricans throughout the world such as Roberto Clemente, Julia de Burgos, Eugenio María de Hostos, and many other prominent figures. Described as a comedy with a big heart, it is meant to educate and entertain. Ultimately, whether the young student stays on the island or moves to the mainland is irrelevant. The point is to understand where one comes from, to know one's history, and to understand that, like many other cultures, Puerto Ricans have much to be proud of, much to offer the world, and a cultural richness that is undeniable.
The hour and a half long performance is entirely in Spanish. Admission is free and open to the public. The show is family-friendly and will be held in NCC's Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem.
