U.S. Department of Transportation Awards $161,468 Grant to NCC
Funds support safety training for NCC's Truck Driver Training Program
Bethlehem, PA (10/01/2019) — The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced on September 25 that it has awarded Northampton Community College (NCC) $161,468 from FMCSA's Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training (CMV-OST) grant program. The funds are part of $77.3 million in grants to states and educational institutions to enhance commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety.
"Safety is the Department's top priority and these grants will further assist state and local officials in their efforts to prevent commercial motor vehicle crashes," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.
"This grant will help increase opportunities for students to gain the skills and credentials necessary to obtain employment in a regional high priority occupation that will allow them to earn stable, family sustaining wages," says Dr. Mark Erickson, NCC president. "At least 95% of students who successfully complete the program become employed as a commercial motor vehicle operator within two months of graduating."
